AIZAWL, May 27: The Former Councillors’ Association of Mizoram Municipalities (FOCAM) has officially been renamed as the Former Corporators’ Association of Aizawl Municipal Corporation (FOCAM) following constitutional amendments adopted during its sixth general meeting held at Aijal Club in Aizawl on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by Art & Culture Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga as the chief guest, along with former councillors and corporators from across the state.
One of the key decisions taken during the meeting was the restructuring of the organisation’s membership and identity. Speaking at the gathering, FOCAM Secretary Pu P.C. Lalhmingthanga stated that after the amendments, the association would now include only former councillors and corporators of the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC), unlike earlier when former councillors from municipalities across Mizoram were eligible for membership.
He informed that the organisation currently has 38 members and functions based on seven core objectives and guiding principles.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Pu C. Lalsawivunga highlighted the importance of collective responsibility and cooperation in ensuring development and progress. He said organizations like FOCAM can play an important role in supporting corporators and contributing towards the planned growth of Aizawl city.
The Minister noted that the public increasingly expects better urban development and accountability from municipalities and corporators. He also remarked that Aizawl, despite growing without proper planning in earlier years, continues to progress and requires sustained efforts to become a cleaner, more organized, and attractive city.

He further stressed the need for transparent and corruption-free governance in municipal administration, urging proper utilization of Urban Local Body grants and other municipal funds.
The meeting also discussed issues related to urban development, inclusive growth, and the welfare of economically weaker sections residing within the city.
The newly renamed Former Corporators’ Association of Aizawl Municipal Corporation is expected to focus more specifically on issues concerning AMC governance, urban planning, and municipal administration in Aizawl.
